Blog post 3:

What percentage of guests should we provide catering for our wedding?

This is a good question and an important one! It’s vital you put a lot of thought into your wedding catering because your guests are expecting to eat (and drink) well! Is is a wedding after all! Food makes or breaks any special occasion and so for your wedding breakfast you must cater for 100% of the guests attending.

For the evening, we highly recommend that you cater for 90% of your guests. Keep in mind that not everyone will be hungry but consider how many of your guests were present for the meal during the day, and how late the party will run on until. It’s better to have more food that guests can grab and eat in their taxi on their way home than having guests hungry.

How to find the right Caterer for your wedding…

Getting married is a once in a lifetime experience, so it’s vital that your wedding catering is a representation of you both as individuals and as a couple, reflect your values and beliefs, and of course, looks and tastes fabulous!

To find the right caterer, you must figure out the kind of services you require.

Aside from your Wedding breakfast menu, will you need to provide evening food for your guests? Who will be at your chosen venue to slice and serve your wedding cake? Will you need an on-site bar? Will you need waiters and Bar Staff?

Once you have the answers to the questions above, it’s time to start researching Caterers.

Firstly, speak to your venue, who do they recommend for the type of catering you are looking for?

Do a generic Google search to see what Catering is available in your area, then check out a wedding listing site such as Hitched or Bridebook.

Once you have a list of three Caterers, do some in-depth research, looking at their reviews, website, social media platforms and asking friends or family if they have had any experience with the company.

Once you have narrowed down your choices to two caterers, it’s time to contact them directly. The best way to reach out is through email and follow it up with a phone call. Sending an email is a good option since you can write down exactly what you’re looking for before talking to them on the phone.

Once you have established if your wedding date is available and if they can provide the type of menu and service that you require, it’s a great idea to meet the Caterer in person. At the meeting find out how far in advance that you need to book the Caterer, what the costings are, where they will prepare the food, if they can deal with any guest allergy and intolerance requests and if they offer free tasting of the menu options.

Once you have had your tasting and are happy with the menu, relax, heading back Catering is all in hand.
